The next T20 match of the series will be played at Mount Maunganui on Sunday. India now has to play two more T20 Internationals and a three-match ODI series on this tour. Both the teams would be looking to make a fresh start in this series after their recent semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia.

In the World Cup, India had to face defeat from the champions England. New Zealand were defeated by the runners-up Pakistan. In the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya is leading the Indian T20 team while wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is the vice-captain. Apart from Rohit, veteran batsman Virat Kohli and opener Lokesh Rahul have been rested for this tour. In the absence of experienced players, Shubman Gill, Umran Malik, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have been given a chance in the team. After the T20 World Cup, the entire coaching staff including head coach Rahul Dravid has also been rested. National Cricket Academy head and former player VVS Laxman has been appointed as the head coach of the team for this tour.
